Latest Poll Shows Twitter Use Stable

The latest poll from Pew Internet & American Life Research shows that 8% of all American adults that are online are on Twitter daily and 15% have been on Twitter within the past month. Twitter usage has been steady since 2011 and has actually quadrupled since late 2010 when only 2% of online adults were active users.  Are you on Twitter? Are you simply a listener or a tweeter? Do you head there to see if something is down or to get in touch with a company, or do you tweet regularly?

We are on Twitter: @NoIPcom. Tweet us how you use our services and you could win an awesome No-IP t-shirt! Check us out!

F-Secure Releases Warning About Olympics-Themed Malware

F-Secure released a statement earlier today warning of an Olympics-Themed malware attack that is being sent via email.

Excerpt from the F-Secure website:
“The PDF exploits CVE-2010-2883, which affects older versions of Adobe Reader and Acrobat. A typical PDF exploit will launch a clean decoy as part of its attack, and in this case, the decoy is a copy of the London 2012 Olympic schedule circa October 2010. The original source PDF can still be found online at: london2012.com.”

What should you do? Well for starters, take 2 minutes and update your Adobe software.  Also, as always never open links or attachments in emails from people that you do not know.  Always be sure to double check links and beware of phishing scams. How to Protect your Electronics During the Summer Months

This past weekend it was beautiful in Reno. The weather is heating up and summer is finally starting to settle in.

On Sunday morning, I left my iPhone sitting on a chair outside. I retrieved it about 30 minutes later. When I picked it up, it had a big warning symbol on the iPhone Temperature screen that said “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it” I was pretty shocked since I had never seen this warning before, but I was also happy that the iPhone has a built in temperature monitor to avoid literally frying my phone.

While you are outside enjoying the weather, do not forget to protect your expensive electronics. So, what can you do to keep your electronics safe during the hot summer months?

1. Never leave your computer or electronics in a hot car. This is just setting yourself up for disaster. Bring your electronics inside or with you if you will be out and about. The same goes for the winter months, frigid temperatures in a car can also be troublesome for electronics.

2. Spending the day at the beach or park? Never leave your electronics out in the glaring sun. Hide them under a blanket, in a bag (tucked deep away and preferably in the shade), or your pocket. Also be sure to hide them from prying eyes… I once had an iPod stolen at a community swimming pool. Total bummer to say the least.

3. Transition electronics gradually to changing temperatures… It can shock a computer or electronic when transitioning from 90 degree plus temps to an air conditioned house or office. Make the transition gradual to ease your electronics into the change. Excess moisture caused from rapid fluctuations in temps is never a good thing for electronics.

Oh and if you are at a party and your friend pushes you into a swimming pool and your phone takes an unfortunate dive with you, always remember to never switch the phone on (water and electronics do NOT mix) and to quickly insert it into a bag of dried rice for a few days… Chances are pretty high that your phone will work again. (It worked for me!)
