25 Things You Didn’t Know About No-IP

25-things-you-dont-know-about-no-ip

1. No-IP was founded in 1999 in a college apartment at Sonoma State.
2. No-IP’s first office was a 100sq/ft unit in Sorrento Mesa, CA.
3. We’re a curious bunch and like to try new things like Surströmming.
4. Nerf guns are now banned at the office as we take things too far. A few employees modified them to shoot a lot faster than they should.
5. For the first 4 years, our CEO was doing technical support and still works with the Customer Success team directly.
6. No-IP started as a school project.
7. All employees once feared for their lives due to an angry hawk just outside the office.
8. We once had a toilet on the roof of our building, placed there by one of our employees as a practical joke.
9. Company outings have included skiing, go-karting, kayaking, and UTV’ing.
10. Two employees share the same birthday.
11. Speaking of birthdays, one of our birthday traditions is taping a 40-ounce beer to your hand. We also have a few other traditions like choosing the company lunch that week, a happy hour with your favorite cocktail, and even nothing, since not everyone has the same feelings about birthdays.

12. Office pranks have  included a desk covered in sod (grass), an Annoy-a-Tron hid in the ceiling vent, outlet socket and a hollowed out book for months, changing someones DNS settings to make Reddit go to Google and Google resolve to Bing, the least favorite is when someone ruins an entire Costco size container of Jelly Belly’s by putting a box of Beanboozled Jelly Beans in it.

13. We had a donut eating contest once. The winner ate 7 donuts in 10 minutes.
14. We host an annual company-wide hack-a-thon called Snotty’s Bakeoff.
15. We have a yearly holiday party, that is the jam. This year it was a 1920′s Murder Mystery themed party and someone died (but not really).
16. Deven is secretly a professional basketball player. He sinks free throws all day.
17. We accept BTC and Latin American payments.
18. Careless Whisper is running on an amazing saxophone 10-hour loop in our bathrooms as is the Stranger Things theme song.
19. Rebecca Black and Guy on a Buffalo are beloved characters and both are ringtones that one of our Software Engineer uses
20. We have a No-IP Reef tank. We also had a Mac Plus that we gutted and put a fish tank in.
21. No-IP used to name all of their servers after tire companies. Some of the names were: Goodyear, Dunlop, Nitto, Nexen, Michelin, Pirelli, and Toyo.
22. No-IP’s original core hardware has been repurposed as a coffee table.
23. We have company-sponsored lunches every Tuesday and Friday.
24. We like to have fun. In the office, we have two pinball machines, a foosball machine, basketball hoop and a ping pong table. Therefore, productivity levels are low some days.
25. We host our Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive every December. This year was our biggest donation ever. We donated over $5000 in food and toys thanks to our generous employees and family.

BONUS: Snotty Ron is our mascot. I’m impressed.

Inc. 5000 List of Fastest Growing Private Companies

For the FOURTH year in a row, we earned a spot on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies.

We rank 20th among companies based in Nevada and 3rd among Reno-based companies. This honor makes us a part of an elite group of companies like GoPro, Loot Crate, and Patagonia, who continue to grow and succeed in our respective industries. Over the past 4 years, No-IP has seen an 85% increase in revenue and has continued to grow the team. You can see our ranking and stats by visiting our Inc. profile page. The entire Inc. 500|5000 list is available on Inc.com

Hosted Two Hackathons – Snotty’s Bakeoff

We hosted two company-wide hackathons this year, thus creating a new quarterly tradition that everyone in the company really enjoys. The Hackathon named, Snotty Ron’s Bakeoff, is a way for everyone on the No-IP team to step away from their day-to-day responsibilities and get creative.

Projects range from super technical, dev heavy projects, to remodeling a breakout office into a themed office to help cater to how different people work.

For 3 days straight, teams work together to turn their ideas into a demo-able product. The teams consist of people from many different roles across the company; from product managers to analysts to creatives and devs, all of the teams work together to create a cool project. Everyone put out some awesome projects and we can’t wait to see what comes out of the 3rd Hackathon!

Honored as NCET’s Software Company of the Year

No-IP was recognized as Software Company of the Year in Northern Nevada’s Technological Community at the NCET Tech Awards. This award was a surprise win for everyone at No-IP. It was great to have companies in our community learn a bit more about who we are and what we do.

We hosted our Fourth Annual Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive which benefitted the Children’s Cabinet, a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping the children of Northern Nevada. We donated over $4,000 worth of food and toys. It is awesome to work with a group of people that believe in giving back to the community.

While this year has been one of our best yet, we are even more excited about what the future holds for No-IP and can’t wait to share with you some of the new products we plan to offer in the coming months. Since 1999, our customers have been spreading the word about No-IP and the helpful services that we offer. We wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for all of you. No-IP Hosts Fourth Annual Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive

toydrive-givingthanks-noip-toydrive

The holiday season is a time to reflect on the year and to give back to those in need. For the fourth year in a row, No-IP is hosting their Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive to benefit the local community.

The Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive will benefit the Children’s Cabinet, a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping the children of Northern Nevada.

We are looking for donations of nonperishable food items and unwrapped toys and games, gift cards, clothing, hygiene products for children (birth through 24 years old) and their parents and caregivers.

We believe in giving back to the local Reno-Sparks community. The holiday season means many different things to people; for some, it’s a joyous time filled with family and friends, but for too many, it’s a time of year that is met with incredible hardship and sadness.

“The fact that we can help local families give their children joy during a difficult time is the true meaning of the holiday season to us,” stated Natalie Goguen, Marketing Manager. “I am so thankful to work for a company that believes so much in giving back to the local community,” said Goguen.

Want to help? To donate to the Giving Thanks Food and Toy Drive, please bring donations to the No-IP office at 425 Maestro Dr. Second Floor, Reno, NV 89511, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Donations will be accepted from Tuesday, November 28 through Tuesday, December 12. Food items should be nonperishable. Please ensure that items are not expired. Toys should be new and unwrapped. Donations can be left in the box at the front door.

Since 1985, The Children’s Cabinet has been providing a wide range of crisis intervention services, including Safe Place, a service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for youth experiencing violence, abuse or exploitation. Their programs also include runaway and homeless youth services, substance abuse and gang intervention programming, work experience training, and independent living for former foster care youth.
