You Are:
A senior Rust engineer who likes systems work close to the operating system and cares about security. You want to own the software customers install on their own machines, from the background service to the signed installer. You use AI tools every day and own every change you ship.
You Have:
5+ years of software engineering, including 2+ years of production async Rust. You have shipped long-running client software to customers on more than one OS and supported it in the field: installers, code signing, auto-update, and debugging from logs when you can't reproduce the problem locally.
Your Location:
- Hybrid in Reno, NV
- Occasional travel to Reno HQ if remote
Your Schedule:
- Full-Time | 40 Hours Per Week
- Monday – Friday | Standard Business Hours (some flexibility)
Your Language Skills:
- English (Highly Proficient Written & Verbal)
Your Manager:
- Development Manager
Your Contribution to No-IP:
You'll develop the No-IP Client: a Rust background service and a lightweight desktop app that keep customers' hostnames pointed at their devices, enroll devices to their accounts, and provide secure remote access. You'll ship and support it on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and make it the foundation of our growing MSP and Zero Trust product lines.- Build and maintain the Rust background service and its async workers for DDNS updates, device enrollment, health checks, and messaging
- Extend the headless mode, managed from config files and a CLI, on servers and desktops
- Extend secure tunneling: identity-based enrollment and outbound-only connections that let customers reach a service without port forwarding or a public IP, plus public and private sharing
- Own service management, local IPC, secret storage, packaging, and code signing on Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Maintain the multi-platform build and release pipeline, including signed updates
- Keep the client secure and reliable on unreliable customer networks, and fix field issues from logs and error reporting
- Use Claude and Claude Code daily, and help set team practices for AI use in a security-sensitive codebase
- Work with product, backend, and web teams on priorities and the APIs the client calls, and help other engineers grow in Rust
Qualifications:
Required
- 5+ years of professional software engineering, including 2+ years of production Rust
- Strong async Rust: concurrency, cancellation, and graceful shutdown
- Shipped long-running services or daemons on Windows, macOS, or Linux, including upgrade in place and privileged operation
- Windows systems programming, including IPC and service control
- Networking fundamentals: DNS, IPv4 and IPv6, HTTP, and retries on unreliable networks
- Knowledge of OS packaging, code signing, and distribution of executables
- Demonstrated experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code
Nice to Have
- Zero trust, VPN, or secure tunneling products
- macOS and Linux platform and service work
- Cross-platform desktop app frameworks
- RPC frameworks or message buses
- Applied cryptography in Rust
- DDNS, DNS infrastructure, or router software
