What is a Static IP Address?

A static IP is an IP address that is fixed, meaning that it never changes. If you are connected to an Internet connection that is “always on”, most likely you have a static IP address, although some of the “always on” connections use dynamic IP addressing to make the installation process easier. Normally connections such as a T1 have a static IP address.

If you are unsure if you have a static IP, you probably do not. Static IPs are typically an upsell that is charged monthly from your Internet Service Provider.
