Prerequisites for Creating a PTR Record

In order to create a PTR record you will need to obtain a static IP address. It is NOT possible to create a PTR record while using a dynamic IP address.

Using Alternate SMTP Port Service as an Alternative

If you do not want, or cannot get, a static IP address you can use our Alternate Port SMTP service (click ‘self hosted mail’). This service will allow you to send outbound mail within a mail server using our SMTP mail relay without having to create a PTR record.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a PTR Record

You need to contact your ISP and have them delegate the static IP addresses Nameservers to No-IP Nameservers.  This may be difficult as not all Internet Service Providers will make this change. If they are willing to make the change give them the names of the Nameservers below.

No-IP’s Nameservers:

  • ns1.no-ip.com
  • ns2.no-ip.com
  • ns3.no-ip.com
  • ns4.no-ip.com

Note: Changing the Nameservers for any service can take 24-48 hours to complete.

Contacting Support to Purchase the PTR Record

Once the above is done contact No-IP’s Support Team via ticket or Phone (775-853-1883) with your desire to purchase a PTR record. PTR records are recurring payments as an add on for Plus Managed DNS at the cost of an additional $10 USD. Please note that the initial payment will be a prorated price of the term of your Plus Managed DNS service.

Creating the PTR Record: Timeline and Next Steps

Once purchased we will create the PTR record which could take up to 24 hours to complete.

Note: Your Internet Service Provider should be able to create this record for you without any additional cost to your service.

Note: You must have Plus Managed DNS or Pro Dynamic DNS with No-IP in order to create this record properly.
